How to reach Raithal ?

Raithal is located 40 km North on the Gangotri Highway of Uttarkashi town of Uttarakhand. If you want to reach there by your private vehicle then there are two routes-

Route 1: Via Dehradun (Scenic & Hill Route)

  • Path: Dehradun → Mussoorie bypass → Suwakholi → Dhanaulti/Chamba → Dharasu Bend → Uttarkashi → Bhatwari → Raithal
  • Distance: ~190 km
  • Drive Time: 6.5 – 7.5 hours
  • Road Conditions: Beautiful mountain views, but involves narrow stretches and winding curves between Suwakholi and Chamba.

Route 2: Via Rishikesh (Wider & Smoother Highway)

  • Path: Rishikesh → Narendra Nagar → Chamba → Dharasu Bend → Uttarkashi → Bhatwari → Raithal
  • Distance: ~185 km
  • Drive Time: 6 – 7 hours
  • Road Conditions: Best option for sedans and hatchbacks. Follows the All-Weather Road (NH 34) up to Uttarkashi, offering wider double-lane.

1) Firstly arrive Dehradun or Rishikesh

2) Dehradun / Rishikesh to Uttarkashi

  • Distance: ~145 km from Rishikesh; ~150 km from Dehradun (via Mussoorie).
  • Travel Time: 5 – 7 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.
  • Shared Jeeps & Cabs: Shared cabs to Uttarkashi depart early morning (5:00 AM – 1:00 PM) from the Mussoorie Bus Stand near Dehradun Railway Station or the Nataraj Chowk taxi stand in Rishikesh (fare: ₹400–₹500 per seat).
  • Buses: UTC (Uttarakhand Transport Corporati) and GMOU (Garhwal Motor Owners Union Limited) buses operate direct morning services to Uttarkashi from ISBT Dehradun and Rishikesh.

3) Uttarkashi to Raithal

  • Route: Uttarkashi → Netala → Maneri → Bhatwari → Raithal (~42 km | 1.5 to 2 hours).
  • Shared Transport: From the Uttarkashi taxi stand, take a shared jeep headed towards Bhatwari (approx. 32 km). From Bhatwari, shared local jeeps run the 10 km steep uphill climb up to Raithal village. (fare: ₹100–₹200 per seat)
  • Direct Private Taxi: Hire a private cab directly from Uttarkashi town to Raithal (approx. ₹1,500–₹2,000 for a small cab/Bolero).

  • Start Early: Mountain public transport runs most frequently between 5:00 AM and 10:00 AM. After noon, finding shared taxis out of Uttarkashi towards Bhatwari becomes rare.
  • Fuel & Cash: The last reliable ATMs and fuel pumps are in Uttarkashi town; withdraw sufficient cash before heading up to Raithal.
