Kedarkantha Trek | Winter's Queen Trek

The Kedarkantha Trek is one of the most popular winter treks in India and is located in the beautiful Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand. This trek is well known for its stunning mountain views, snow-covered trails in winter, and peaceful forest paths. Every year thousands of trekkers visit Kedarkantha to experience the beauty of the Himalayas and to climb one of the most scenic trekking peaks in Uttarakhand.

Kedarkantha is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after treks in the Uttarakhand region. Known for its natural beauty and varied level of difficulty, the trek is a cult favorite amongst the trekking community. However, what trekkers love more than the Kedarkantha Trek is the Kedarkantha Winter Trek. Full of greenery, nature blooming, and vibrant flora and fauna, this place is like a winter wonderland in the snow.

The trek usually starts from the small village of Sankri, which is around 200 kilometers from Dehradun. From Sankri, trekkers walk through dense pine forests, oak trees, and beautiful clearings before reaching the famous Juda Ka Talab campsite. The trail then moves toward Kedarkantha Base Camp and finally leads to the summit of Kedarkantha Peak. The Kedarkantha summit stands at an altitude of around 12,500 feet, offering breathtaking views of famous Himalayan peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and Ranglana.

One of the main reasons why the Kedarkantha trek in Uttarakhand is loved by trekkers is that it is suitable for beginners as well as experienced hikers. The trail is not very difficult, and people with basic fitness can complete the trek comfortably. Because of its easy to moderate difficulty level, Kedarkantha is often called one of the best beginner treks in India.

The trek becomes even more magical during the winter months when the entire region is covered with thick snow. The snow trails, frozen lake at Juda Ka Talab, and the white summit views make the Kedarkantha snow trek one of the best winter trekking experiences in the Himalayas. Many trekkers choose this trek between December and March to enjoy walking on snow and camping in snowy landscapes.

Another highlight of the Kedarkantha trek is the stunning campsite locations. Trekkers get the chance to camp in beautiful places surrounded by forests and mountains. Juda Ka Talab is a famous lake campsite that becomes partially frozen in winter. The Kedarkantha Base Camp is also known for its wide open meadows and clear views of snow peaks.

The total Kedarkantha trek package duration is usually 5 days and 4 nights, starting from Dehradun and ending at the same location. During these days, trekkers travel through charming Himalayan villages, quiet forests, and scenic ridges. The final summit climb is the most exciting part of the trek, where trekkers reach the top early in the morning to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayan ranges.

For people looking for a perfect mix of adventure, nature, and Himalayan beauty, the Kedarkantha summit trek is an ideal choice. Whether you are trekking for the first time or planning another Himalayan adventure, Kedarkantha offers an unforgettable experience with snow trails, peaceful campsites, and spectacular mountain views.

If you are someone who has already trekked on your fair share of trails, your next goal must be to do it during the winter season. And rightfully so. While the trails are breathtakingly beautiful during the summer, the beauty of snow-covered mountains is something else. Walking on slippery grounds, tracing down snow-covered paths as you cross forests, stopping at the edges of frozen rivers, and being able to look at your breath. And of course, conquering the mighty Himalayas when they are the most difficult even to wander around. That is the beauty of taking a winter trek.

However, the fact that most trails are closed to the general public during the winter season is a significant issue. But don’t you worry. We have the perfect solution for you, the Kedarkantha Winter Trek. As the name suggests, this trek is indeed open in winter, giving you the ideal opportunity to witness the uninterrupted beauty of the snow-covered mountain. Located in Uttarakhand, the trek is situated at an elevation of 3800 m, making it the perfect destination for winter.

While Kedarkantha Winter Trek is breathtaking all year round, its beauty in winter is unmatched. So, if you have a long vacation and are not sure what to do, this is your sign to book the winter trek now.
